In iOS 10, Apple has taken emoji to a whole new level by introducing an all-new replacement and predictive system that automatically replace key words with relevant emoji characters. With iOS 10.2 update, Apple adds more than 70 new emoji characters, while redesigning a lot of old ones. Accordingly, we now have a number of animal emoji characters like Duck, Fox Squid and more. There is also a new clown face and an overhauled wolf face.


iOS 10 offers multiple ways to use emoji. If you are not a particular tech savvy, tons of emoji characters and how to use may be a little confusing. With that in mind, in this guide, we will show you how to use emoji on iPhone and iPad. Here we go

How to use emoji on iPhone and iPad

In reality, any app with keyboard can access emoji. However, we are going to use the Messages app to show you how they work on your iPhone and iPad

Step one: First off, you need to open the app you wish to use with emoji. We are going to take the Messages app as an example

Step two: Once you are in the Messages app, all you need to do is to tap the input field to bring up the keyboard

Step three: Next up, all you have to do is to tap on the Globe icon located next to the Keyboard key. Once you are done, you simply swipe left or right to browse all the emoji

Step four: Locate the emoji you wish to use and select the version you want to use. This depends on emoji you select, so you can actually skip this step

How to disable emoji on iPhone and iPad

There are times when you find the emoji keyboard annoying. Luckily, you can easily disable on your iPhone and iPad. Here is how you can do this

Step one: First off, you need to launch the Settings app from your home screen. Once you are in, scroll down to General and tap on it

Step two: You are now supposed to tap Keyboard and tap Keyboards to proceed

Step three: Once you are inside the Keyboards section, you will see the emoji keyboard and all you need to do now is to swipe left on it to reveal the Delete option. Tap on it to disable the emoji keyboard

If you change your mind, you can easily bring back the emoji keyboard by heading to Settings > General > Keyboard > Add New Keyboard > Emoji.
