Uninstalling a Mac app is more than just dragging it into the Trash and emptying the Trash. Some apps won’t just go away, instead leaving behind a lot of leftovers to take up your device’s storage space. There are a number of third-party apps out there that help you remove persistent apps on your Mac. However, not all of them are worth your time.

Fortunately, macOS includes built-in tools that allow you to uninstall any apps you no longer need. With that in mind, we are going to show you how to uninstall a Mac app. Before proceeding with our guide, make sure you now have a modern version of macOS High Sierra.

How to uninstall a Mac app

  1. Trash

The easiest way to remove an app from your Mac is to drag it into the Trash. This method has been around for years. However, it may not work with apps or programs that have their own uninstaller tools. The process is pretty simple and we will cover in the section below.

Step one: Open a Finder window on your Mac and then select Applications to see all programs you have installed on your computer

Step two: Select the application you wish to remove and then click File at the top

Step three: Hit Move to Trash and then empty the Trash.

Note that if you cannot uninstall a Mac app, then there is a good chance that it is still open. Make sure you close it before moving ahead.

  1. Uninstaller

Most of apps or programs now include built-in uninstaller tools. This comes in handy, as it eliminates the need to go through multiple folders. An Uninstaller allows you to completely remove an app or program. Therefore, we recommend you use an Uninstall tool inside of your app.

Step one: Open the Finder window on your Mac and hit Applications

Step two: Once you are in, you should see a list of all applications installed on your Mac

Step three: Select the app you wish to remove and then double-click on the Uninstall tool.

  1. Launchpad

Launchpad has been an essential part of macOS for years, showing all applications installed on your machine. In this case, you can use Launchpad to quickly remove an app. Here is how.

Step one: Hit the Launchpad icon from your Dock. After that, click and hold the app icon you wish to remove until it starts shaking

Step two: Hit the X button next to the app you want to uninstall and then hit Delete button.
