If you are in the same difficulty, we’re here to help you! Here are some useful tips and tricks to speed up your iOS iPhone/iPad.

Tips & Tricks To Speed up Your Slow iPhone After iOS 12 Update

  1. Update Your iPhone/iPad Again

If your IOS device is still running on the early iOS 12 versions (or the beta), the first thing you can do is to check for updates. It often needs a couple of weeks for a new iOS update to stable out. On your phone, navigate to Settings -> General -> Software Update and check if there is an update available.

  1. Check Battery Health Of Your iPhone

While iOS 12 doesn’t suffer from the battery throttling issues plaguing iOS 11 and iOS 10 versions, if your iPhone battery is damaged on unhealthy, your phone performance will slow down, or even cause it to crash frequently.

On your iOS 12 iPhone/iPad, head to Settings -> Battery -> Battery Health. From here, you should check that if the battery health is under 80%, the battery needs to be replaced. You just take your phone to the nearest Apple Care Center to replace a new at a low cost.

  1. Free Up Storage Space

Although that’s an old trick, it’s still true. If your device runs out of space, it will behave weirdly and random slowdowns might be the result.

So, you should usually check the space left on your phone by going to Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage. From there, you will know how exactly your device is using up as well as the available storage. If there are apps that are using too much space, you should uninstall them.

You will also see recommendations to get rid of things at the top of the iPhone Storage section. Activate Offload Unused Apps feature and your phone will automatically delete apps that you haven’t used in a while.

  1. Reduce Motion

iOS 12 comes with a bunch of new animations and they can make old models run slower. So, you should try disabling animations and then check if there is a difference for your phone.

Head to Settings -> General, tap on Accessibility and turn on Reduce Motion. Once activated, all animations like unlocking the device, opening apps will go away.

In this Settings pane, you can also reduce transparency and increase contrast. Not only does it make your iOS device more legible, but the CPU will also need less power for rendering elements. Tap on Accessibility> Increase Contrast and Reduce Transparency.

  1. Disable Background App Refresh

If there are too many apps working in the background, you should consider disabling Background App Refresh for some or all apps.

To do so, go to Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh and toggle the switch next to the apps that you want to turn off background data. We recommend you to disable Back Ground App Refresh for social media apps like Facebook and Twitter, Snapchat, and for app requires location like Google Maps.

  1. Hard Reset

Hard Reset sounds scary, but it’s actually not. It’s simply a hard reboot- a more advanced reboot. If your iOS device gets stuck, or an app misbehaves, you should do a hard reset on your iPhone/iPad. It only resets the settings and cache and doesn’t do anything to data or apps on your device.

All you have is pressing and holding a couple of buttons for a few seconds. After that, wait for the Apple logo to display. Once the reboot is done, your iOS device will run faster and fresher.

If you are owning an iPhone 7/7 plus, the process is slightly different as there is not the physical Home button on these models.

This might be the last resort. If nothing helped you, you’d better reset your iPhone/iPad and start from the scratch. First I recommend you to make a full backup using iTunes or iCloud. If you cannot restore for the backup, then set up your device as new. You will be more mindful of the apps downloaded and you will no longer bring over any bugs or issues.
