Coolstar, the developer of SemiRestore has just updated the utility to support iPhone and iPad running up to iOS 9.1. This means any devices running from iOS 5.0 – 9.1 can now restore without uninstalling the current Jailbreak.
Thank Saurik’s Cydia Impactor tweak, both iPhone, and iPad users can reset their device while still maintaining the same firmware version. As a result, they can continue to jailbreak again whenever they wish to.
In this article, I will introduce the iLex RAT and Semi-Restore tool, which help to remove all the mistakes users have made in Cydia.
Semi-Restore
Released by CoolStar, the creator behind many popular tweaks like ClassicLockScreen and BetterPowerDown, Semi-Restore aims to make the process of unjailbreaking an iPhone or iPad easier. the device will stay on the same iOS version and keep the jailbreak.
When using Semi-Restore, note the following actions:
- Erase all data and settings
- Uninstall every single Jailbreak tweaks
- Fix issues with Activation, iMessage, and SafeMode
- Reinstall Cydia
Here is the tutorial on how to properly use Semi-Restore.
Step1: Download Semi Restore v1.0.1
Windows
Linux
Step 2: On your iOS device, go to Cydia and install OpenSSH
Step 3: Download and install .NET 4.5.2 (to avoid “MSVCP100.dll” error later on)
Step 4: Check to see if your iTunes is later than 12.0.1, downgrade it
Step 5: Now launch Semi-Restore and wait for it to detect the iPhone. When it does, the Restore button should be visible, click on it.
Step 6: This will take some time and during the restoring process, the device will reboot and respring for several times.
It is important that users must not touch anything until it is complete. The software will show users when the restore is finished. After that, users can setup the device as brand new or use a previous Backup from iTunes.
iLex RAT
Several users have reported that iLex RAT is known for messing up the device instead of fixing it. However, there were many people used it before, and it worked great on their device. If Semi-Restore does not support your firmware, please try iLex RAT.
How does this tool perform?
iLex RAT is quite similar to Cydia Impactor; users can install and use it directly on the iPhone and iPad. However, the good thing is that it will not delete the existent Jailbreak on the device.
How do we get started?
Fairly easy and simple, take a look at the instructions below:
- iLex RAT is quite similar to Cydia Impactor; users can install and use it directly on the iPhone and iPad. However, the good thing is that it will not delete the existent Jailbreak on the device.
- Go to Cydia > Search > Install iFile (the free version)
- Download the latest version of iLex RAT from here(also see this)
- Wait until the download is complete; now tap on “Open in iFile…”
- Once iFile opens, choose the Installer
- Respring your device
There is also another method, which will require users to download and install more than one tweaks and utilities on the computer.
Requirements:

Download DiskAid (recommended) for Windows or Cyberduck for MacOS
Extract iLexRat.deb file to your desktop
Run DiskAid/iFunbox and connect your iOS (iPhone, iPod or iPad)
DiskAid/iFunbox will show your device contents, Now navigate to var/root/Media/
Create the folder Cydia/AutoInstall (if not already created)
Move iLexRat.deb file from your desktop to var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall
