Recently, YouTube has released a cool Dark Mode to those who’ve got its Material Design look. Before we head to how to enable this mode, please make sure that you’re running Chrome 57 or later version.

Steps to turn on Dark Mode on Youtube if you have material design

If you’ve already had Youtube’s Material Design, you are able to enable Dark Mode straight from the drop down menu appearing when you click on your Youtube profile picture.

Otherwise, if you haven’t got the Material Design, simply follow the steps below.

Steps to turn on YouTube’s Dark Mode (without Material Design)

As for this case, you are required to use the Chrome browser until Dark Mode and Material Design have become available to all users of YouTube on desktop.

Step 1: First off, you need to open Chrome browser on your computer and log in your Youtube account

Step 2: Next up, open Chrome’s developer tools:

  • For Mac:Press Command ()—Option ()—I
  • For Windows:Press F12 or Control—Shift—I

Step 3: Near the top of the developer tools window, click on the Console tab

Step 4: Then, you need to paste the following code line into the console, then Enter:

document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE; path=/”

In case that doesn’t work, enter the following:

text: document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE”

Step 5: Close the developer tools and load the YouTube webpage again

Step 6: Click your profile image which appears in the top-right corner, choose a Dark Mode item, then enable the switch for  Activate Dark Mode at the bottom of the menu

Now you can enjoy your favorite Youtube clips in Dark mode. To disable Dark Mode, you just simply need to toggle that switch in your Youtube profile menu to the OFF position.
